Objective: Students will get to know Ms. Rainwater and each other.

3 Thursday

Objective: Students will develop classroom expectations for the year. Students will get to know each other and begin to remember each others names.

 Tasks:
* Fill out note cards
* Seating chart
* Create classroom expectations list
* Blanket game
* Work on World View questions

 Homework: World View questions (due Friday the 4th)

4 Friday

Objective: Students work together to accomplish a task; students will become comfortable with performing and presenting in front of a group. Have fun creating together! Students will talk discuss their opinions about the larger questions I will be asking this year.

 Tasks:
* Power poetry
* Go over World Views Question (line spectrum)

8 Tuesday

Objective: Students will be introduced to the Worlds Studies curriculum and the classroom.

Students will learn that there are 8 types of intelligences. They will learn which types of intelligences they are best at and which ones they need to practice more.

 Tasks:
* Brain stretch
* Power poetry reflections
* Review fire safety
* Introduction to social studies
* Syllabus
* Classroom tour
* Go over Multiple Intelligence homework

9 Wednesday

Objective: Students will have an understanding of the 8 universal components that make up culture.

 Tasks:

10 Thursday

Objective: Students will apply the 8 cultural universals to their own lives again.

Tasks:
* What is culture? The 8 cultural universals lesson
* Introduce essential question for unit

* Explain The Clash of Cultures homework

11 Friday

Objective:
1. To help students come to understand the meaning and impact of culture
2. To demonstrate the potential for misinterpretation that arises when one evaluates another culture solely from the perspective of one’s own values
3. To examine their attitudes and behaviors towards others who are ‘different’ than themselves.

Tasks:
* Bafa Bafa simulation
* Reflection

14 Monday

Objective: Students will understand the definition of "ethnocentrism" and how it plays out in current events.

Tasks:
* Listen to Ukrainian Roots of Jewish Humor (how does this apply to BafaBafa?)
* Ethnocentrism lesson
* Announcement of quiz on culture (definition, 8 universals, ethnocentrism, generalization & stereotype)
* What do you know about socio-economics and government

Objective: Students will begin to understand what economics is.

Tasks:
* Quiz on culture (definition of culture, 8 universals, ethnocentrism, generalization & stereotype)

16 Wednesday

Objective: Students will be able to explain why people fight over different economics systems to impose.

 Tasks:
* Simulation: Rock, Scissors, Paper: Understanding Marxist Theory

 Homework: article reading and questions to answer

17 Thursday

Objective: Students will understand the differences between the 3 socio-economic & Students will be able to explain the pros and cons of communism, socialism and capitalism.

Tasks:
* Go over homework
* Fill out simulation comparison chart from simulation
* Power point with definitions of each
*Examples of each system

Homework: Write a paragraph answering the question, “Which economic system do you prefer and why?”
